Summer won't be officially here for another month, but anyone who's been to the Smokies a few times in the Summer knows the "official unofficial" start to the Summer season is just after Memorial Day. It's been a particularly excellent Spring, now let's carry that momentum over to Summer!
Dollywood still offers the best in family entertainment with TWO festivals you can check out - Barbeque and Bluegrass (now to June 8th) and the Great American Summer starting right after that (June 14th-August 3rd). The former is exactly what it sounds like - a whole festival devoted to the best barbeque meat and bluegrass music you can find ANYWHERE at that given moment in Tennessee for the perfect Southern culture experience at the best family fun park in the South! The latter is Dollywood greatly extending the Summer experience for visitors to Pigeon Forge by having extended opening hours (until 10PM!), returning children's faire like The Little Engine Playhouse and Gazillion Bubbles, and a fireworks display every night of the week (no, seriously!). It's every bit as incredible as it sounds and well worth a visit for it alone!
But don't forget we have plenty to tout here in Gatlinburg too! Ober Gatlinburg and Ripley's Aquarium are classic family entertainment establishments in their own right, and those of you who prefer some more mature attractions can find much to like at Ole Smoky Moonshine, Davy Crockett Distillery, Smoky Mountain Tunes and Tales (which provides near-nightly performances of Appalachian music and stories), and checking out the backbone of our history at the Arts and Crafts Community on Highway 321.
Great stuff for all and it's only going to get better! We'll be back in just a little while with highlights for June. www.allthesmokies.com.
